Padma Shri' Awardee Irrfan Khan Passes Away, Amitabh Bachchan, Shoojit Sircar, and Other Celebs Mourn

The actor Irrfan Khan was awarded Padma Shri in 2011. He also won a National Award in 2013 for his incredible performance in sports drama ‘Paan Singh Tomar’.

'Padma Shri' awardee actor and one of the finest talents in Bollywood Irrfan Khan passed away on Wednesday, April 29, at the age of 53. The veteran actor took his last breath in Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital ICU, where he was admitted a day before due to colon infection.

The sudden death of magnificent actor Irrfan khan left Bollywood in grieve. Celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Anushka Sharma,  Bhumi Pednekar, Zoya Akhtar, Karan Johar, Ajay Devgn, Shabana Azmi, R Madhavan, Athiya Shetty, Sonam Kapoor, Shoojit Sircar, Mini Mathur, Parineeti Chopra, and several others mourned the actor’s sudden demise.

 The shocking news of the Piku star's demise was first shared by his close friend and colleague director Shoojit Sircar on social media.
Film director Soojit Sircar added, " My dear friend Irfaan. You fought and fought and fought. I will always be proud of you.. We shall meet again.. Condolences to Sutapa and Babil.. you too fought, Sutapa you gave everything possible in this fight. Peace and Om Shanti. Irfaan Khan salute."

Amitabh Bachchan, Irrfan's co-actor in Soojit Sircar's movie Piku said "T 3516 - .. just getting news of the passing of Irfaan Khan .. this is most disturbing and sad news. An incredible talent .. a gracious colleague .. a prolific contributor to the World of Cinema .. left us too soon .. creating a huge vacuum .. Prayers and duas."

Priyanka Chopra, Irrfan Khan's co-star in 7 Khoon Maaf, shared a still from the film with the actor and wrote "The charisma you brought to everything you did was pure magic. Your talent forged the way for so many in so many avenues.. You inspired so many of us. Irrfan Khan, you will truly be missed. Condolences to the family."

Film Director Karan Johar thanked the star for several indelible movie memories, “Thank you for raising the bar as an artist ...thank you for enriching our Cinema....we will miss you terribly Irrfan but will always always be immensely grateful for your presence in our lives.....our cinema....we salute you."

Actor Anupam Kher paid his tribute to Irfan and said "Nothing can be more heartbreaking and tragic than the news of passing away of a dear friend, one of the finest actors and a wonderful human being #IrrfanKhan. Saddest day!! May his soul rest in peace. #OmShanti."

Actress Shabana Azmi said she was deeply saddened and wrote, “Gone too soon .. such a powerful actor and how valiantly he fought back cancer. It's a big loss not only to his family but to the entire film industry. RIP.”

Irrfan's 'Haider' co-star Shraddha Kapoor shared a picture from the set of the film and tweeted "Very sad to hear about Irrfan sirs passing. 1 of our finest actors. A magician on the big screen; inspiring & igniting hearts! I was beyond excited to get the precious opportunity to share the screen with him in Haider. Will always be his fan & cherish those moments. RIP sir "

Film actress Raveena Tondon said "A fantastic costar, an actor par excellence, and a beautiful human being, you are irreplaceable #irrfankhan We lost you too soon! Unbelievable. Om Shanti."

Nandita Das, Irrfan’s co-star in Supari, said, “This is just too sad. I'd worked with #IrrfanKhan in Supari, not our best, but we had a wonderful time together. We met a few times after that & will always treasure the warmth. Not to mention the loss of an incredible actor. Will rewatch his films to celebrate his life and work.”
