Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will address a press conference at 4 pm today. In her brief to media, she would announce details of the economic revival package declared by PrimeMinister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, May 12 night.
While addressing the nation yesterday, PM Modi had declared that the government has planned new financial incentives in addition to ones already announced. The relief package stands at ₹20 lakh crore, which is about 10% of India’s gross domestic product (GDP). Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will additionally expand the details on the package in the next few days, he added.
Soon after the announcement of PM Modi, the finance minister tweeted, "A special economic package is being announced - for an Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan with nearly 10% of a GDP (approx Rs 20 lakh) getting committed. MSMEs and the honest middle class help build a #selfreliant India, says @PMOIndia @narendramodi."
In his address to nation PM Modi linked "special economic package" to "Aatma Nirbhar Bharat." This package will revive the development of the country in 2020 and will turn it into a new direction to the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat campaign. In order to demonstrate the determination of a self-reliant India, Land, Labor, Liquidity, and Laws all have been highlighted in this package,” the PM included.
