Here comes the good news for National Pension System (NPS) – Lite subscribers. Now these subscribers can make online contributions, by using the e-NPS lite facility, as per PFRDA circular dated February 19. 

Which NPS Lite subscribers can make online contributions?

Only those NPS Lite subscribers whose valid mobile numbers are registered in their account can make online contributions, as per the circular. However, subscribers who do not have their mobile numbers registered in their account can submit a request to their Point of Presence (PoP) to register their mobile number. After that they can start making online contributions.

NPS Lite subscribers must note that the online contribution facility will be charged at Rs 3.75 per transaction. The amount will be paid to NSDL-CRA along with payment gateway charges, mentioned in the PFRDA circular.

How to make online contribution to NPS Lite?

Step 1: Subscribers can visit @ www.npscra.nsdl.co.in 
Step 2: Click on ‘Open Your NPS account/contribute Online. 
Step 3: Tap on ‘National Pension System’ & then on ‘Contribution’. 
Step 4: Enter details like NPS-Lite/Swavalamban PRAN, date of birth etc.
Step 5: Select ‘NPS Swavalamban, ‘SMS’ option & provide Captcha.
Step 6: Now select & verify ‘PRAN’. 
Step 7: ‘Send OTP’, which will be sent to the registered mobile number. 
Step 8: Click on ‘Submit OTP’.
Step 9: On the new screen, subscriber can mention the amount he/she wishes to contribute in the ‘Voluntary contribution amount’ field. (The minimum accepted amount is Rs 100 & the maximum is Rs 50,000).
Step 10: Select Payment Gateway Option, mark the declarations & click on make payments. (The payment can be made with Debit/Credit Card, Internet Banking facility of banks and PayPal).

Indian citizen aged between 18-60 years & belonging to the unorganised sector can open NPS Lite account.
