Faf du Plessis has decided to voluntarily step down from the captaincy of the South Africa cricket team. He has resigned as captain of all three formats of South Africa i.e. Test, ODI and T20. The Cricket Board of South Africa has itself confirmed this news.
The South African Cricket Board wrote on its official Twitter, "Faf Duplessis has decided to voluntarily to step down the Proteas team's captaincy for Test, ODI and T20 International cricket with immediate effect."
South African Cricket Board further wrote that, "35-year-old Faf du Plessis has stated that he is resigning from the captaincy of the team to give a chance to the new generation players and captains. Doing good."
Faf du Plessis said, "When I took over the captaincy, I performed as well as most importantly the commitment to serve the team."
Du Plessis added that, "It is the most privilege of my life for me to lead my country's team. South African cricket has entered a new phase. New leadership, new players. The team will play with a new challenge and a new strategy. I want to play as a player for all three format teams and I would be happy if I can help the new captain. "
