As per latest reports, banking, energy, technology and auto stocks registered strong profits in the country's stock markets.

The BSE Sensex ended at 40,412.57 by gaining 172.69 points. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty closed at 11,910.15 by gaining 53.35 points.

NTPC remains the highest in SENSEX

In the Sensex, NTPC recorded the maximum gain of 2.77 percent.

ONGC rose 2.28 per cent, Tech Mahindra, Kotak Bank, TCS, Asian Paints, IndusInd Bank, Tata Motors, HDFC, Bajaj Finance, ITC and Bajaj Auto rose over 1 per cent.

On the other side, Yes Bank was the biggest loser at 15.33 percent.

Vedanta, Hero MotoCorp, Larsen & Toubro and Bharti Airtel rolled over 1 per cent.

Most purchases in utility shares

In BSE, the utility sector was the highest at 1.52 per cent.

The oil and gas and power sectors were also growing by over 1 per cent.

On the other side, the capital goods sector declined the most by 0.83 per cent.

The BSE midcap index gained 0.52 percent and the small cap index gained 0.01 percent.
