The University Grants Commission (UGC) has strictly warned the universities for awarding 'Unspecified degrees' to the students.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has strictly warned the universities for awarding 'Unspecified degrees' to the students.

As per the PTI reports, a strict warning for all the universities and educational institutes which should abide by the regulations of the UGC act for unspecified degrees are awarding. The universities and institutes can face litigations and putting students in big problems who have these unspecified degrees. UGC has strictly warned the universities for awarding 'Unspecified degrees' to the students.

"If a university wishes to award a degree other than the ones specified by the UGC, it shall approach the commission for its approval six months prior to starting the degree programme with full justification on the course to be started," the letter said.

"The universities should abide by the provisions of the UGC Act and award only those degrees which have been specified by the UGC," the commission said in a letter to vice chancellors of all universities. 

The UGC has asked universities to stick to the consolidated list provided by it for the approved nomenclature of degrees.

The University Grants Commission is a statutory body which was set up by the Indian Union government. UGC is charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education under Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), UGC act 1956.
Recognition to universities, colleges and educational institutes are provided by the UGC.
